Should you get a SIM card / eSIM /Portable Wi-Fi router when traveling in Taiwan?

With all the convenient free Wi-Fi mentioned above, is it still necessary to get a SIM card when visiting Taiwan? Well, I think it depends on your plan.

If you will only stay in Taipei and not plan to visit the outskirts such as Jiuhen, Yangmingshan and Wulai, the public free Wi-Fi should be fine. However, if you plan an itinerary outside Taipei or gonna drive a car, then getting a SIM card or portable Wi-Fi are better option, as you will have to use Google Maps, access online tickets, track buses, and contact Hotel or Airbnb hosts.
